Macrocosms

Brian Halsey began work on “Macrocosms” in June of 1982 and finished printing the images contained in the suite in May of 1983. The artist hand cut the 92 individual stencils and mixed an equal number of colored inks involved in the project. Each serigraph was personally printed by the artist in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the screenprinting workshop of Larry Kotz during the Winter and Spring of 1982-83.

All of the prints have been hand-numbered, titled and signed in pencil by the artist. The one hundred or so screens utilized in printing have been destroyed. All reproduction rights to each image in “Macrocosms” are reserved by Brian Halsey, copyright 1983.

Each image has been printed on Mirage, white vellum; a 100% rag, pH neutral and 310 gsm paper made by the Rising Paper Company, Housatonic, Massachusetts.

“Macrocosms” was printed in two separate color states of 99 and each color state is designated as “State I/II” or as “State II/II”. Each portfolio color state has been issued in the following manner: Regular Edition 1/75 to 75/75; Artist Proofs 1/12 to 12/12; and Presentation Proofs 1/12 to 12/12. The artist also retained one set of progressive color proofs of six of the images in the suite—each color proof state being one of a kind.

The images in the portfolio are Macron, Apotheosis, Matrix, Conundrum, Moleculon, Triune and Embryon.
